Connecticut made a promise to families, child care providers, and our economy when it created the Early Childhood Education Endowment. Now, as the legislative session comes to a close, we have a critical opportunity to follow through.
We know what works: early, sustained investment lowers long-term costs and strengthens the system for everyone. But current funding levels fall short of what’s needed to deliver on that promise. Without action, families risk losing access, providers may not see the rate increases they were promised, and expansion to reach more children could stall.
By committing to strong early deposits now, lawmakers can stabilize the Endowment, keep pace with rising costs, and reduce pressure in the years ahead. A $900 million investment across 2026 and 2027 is the path forward to make this vision real.
There’s still time to get this right. Let’s finish the session strong and protect the promise of affordable, accessible child care for Connecticut families.
