WORKFORCE CHILD CARE NOW!
Empowering Connecticut’s families and economy by expanding affordable child care
Our coalition shares Governor Ned Lamont’s goal of making Connecticut “the most family-friendly state in the country.” To create a future in which Connecticut families can succeed, communities can grow, and businesses can prosper, our state needs a strong child care solution that supports a powerful workforce.
WORKING FAMILIES IN CONNECTICUT CAN’T AFFORD CHILD CARE.
Parents in our state spend an average of 27% of their household income on child care, more than anywhere else in the country. Parents are staying home because they can’t afford to work, and
1 in 5 parents has quit a job or been fired due to child care problems. Many families are leaving the state altogether for lower cost of living and better opportunities. We can’t rely on the federal government to solve this for us, and Connecticut’s economy can’t wait any longer.
A NEW WORKFORCE CHILD CARE FUND WOULD SUPPORT FAMILIES AND GROW CONNECTICUT’S ECONOMY.
The Workforce Child Care Fund would offset the cost of child care to no more than 7% of household income for Connecticut’s families, so that parents can obtain and afford reliable, high-quality child care that enables them to work. By establishing a protected and dedicated revenue source for child care through Workforce Child Care charge on businesses, the Workforce Child Care Fund would allow families to grow and prosper.
